Future Green Studio’s project Spontaneous Urban Plants has received an ASLA Professional Honor Award in the research category. Check it out here. The Jury said “there’s a fun irreverence about” the project’s approach to creating a botanical guide to spontaneous plants. Future Green Studio used Instagram as a tool to invite the public to gather images of weed specimens throughout the city with the hashtag #spontaneousurbanplants. Photos are collected and identified through the weed mapping website spontaneousurbanplants.org. The project aims to promote the conversation around the resilience of spontaneous urban plants and the substantive ecological benefits they offer. “what’s invasive can have important value when dealing, for example, with the typically degraded and compacted soil of the modern urban environment,” the jury said.
